Did you know Robokop started beatboxing under the name Yoshi J. at the age of 12?
Like something from the mountainous regions that we all visit from time to time, “At war” seemingly tells an evolutionary tale – one that delivers tone through the meticulous use of metallic patches and leading directly into a sweeping step that leaves you wondering what you’ve been missing.
Robokop, hailing from the Netherlands, brings a new production level to Dubstep. In fact, with so many producer/composers coming out of the region as of late, it’s a wonder that I’m only getting around to reviewing this track today. That’s my mistake, and one that I will not make again. I’m onto you Robokop, and I like what I’m hearing…
Back to the track –
While I enjoyed what was occurring through the first two minutes, I did find myself wondering if the track could possibly go in another direction. After all, I am quite the Dubstep fan, but I do find myself longing for some of the progressive elements of my roots….and just then, we hit the 3 minute mark (yes, I noticed the change at 2:30)…
The break that At War offers up as we enter the final 1:25 of the song is a shining example of how the art of composition isn’t lost amidst all of the technology that we play with in our studios. Bringing the elements of musical storytelling into the fold of electronic composition isn’t an easy task. Robokop, and the track “At War”, does this perfectly.
I can honestly say that this is one of the most impressive offerings that the Netherlands Dubstep scene has given us in recent memory.
